The Disappearing Reappearing Starlight Carnival appears sporadically throughout history, performing death-defying acts, feats of strength, magic, and beautiful folly for human beings: the greatest show in any realm. 

 

There’s a catch, though. Isn't there always?

 

The Carnival refuses to leave, stop performing, or release the audience unless they can take one human soul with them, to travel forever performing as part of the circus.

 

Someone always volunteers.
